This is the first book that I have read by Shari Lapena. Overall, it was an interesting and enjoyable read.

This book is about the disappearance of a 9 year old girl in a 'safe neighbourhood'. It gives great background into each neighbour and character by highlighting not everyone is how you seem to think they are, a lot of lies and speculations are in the air.

The plot isn't anything original but I like that it was straight-forward and didn't try to do TOO much. There was a lot of characters, but it gave great detail and background to each character which made it easier to follow and understand. I found it a good suspense book, but did not have me jumping off my feet in shock which is what I want from any thriller book tbh lol. I kind of speculated what was going to happen as the child is troubled, I cant imagine speaking to my parents at that age lol. She is a constant liar and making up many stories which played a vivd part in the investigation as they were searching for a "secret boyfriend" that she made up! Her father's lies anticipated this mess to being with with his lying cheating ass.

Overall, id give the book 3.5 stars as it was good but again not great as we want those mad twists. The book just ended like that 🫰🏻 leaving me wondering what happened after the TV interview where she finally got caught by stuttering and mixing up her story!! That was the only exciting piece for me. Will there be a second? Will her lies finally unravel?
